Off to a good start
This meal-in-a-glass is not only high in fibre, but includes blood-sugar-balancing cinnamon and protein to get you through the morning. I drink it after my morning jump on the trampoline (as you should get some protein in your bod within 45 minutes of exercise to build muscle mass).
And, yes, that is carob you see on the list of ingredients. Carob gets a bad rap I think because everyone's hoping for chocolate and then it's not chocolate. I say, let carob be it's own fine self! It's an excellent source of vitamins A, B2, B3, B6 as well as the minerals copper, calcium, magnesium, manganese and potassium. It's relatively low in calories and high in fibre, and compared to cocoa powder it's stimulant-free and low in fat. If you've still got a hate-on for the stuff though, subsitute with the same amount of cocoa powder.
1 cup non-dairy milk (almond, rice, hemp, or organic soy)
1/4 cup filtered water
1 organic banana
3 tbsp. hemp protein powder (I like Omega Nutrition's Organic Nutri-Hemp Powder)
1 tbsp. flaxseeds, freshly ground
1 tbsp. carob powder
1/2-1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. brown rice syrup, maple syrup or honey (optional)
Blend all ingredients together. Serves one.
